Traveling pain, numbness, tingling, burning, pins/needles and odd feelings of hot/cold are all symptoms that tell us that one or more of the nerves in your body are irritated.
If this irritation happens in the neck region, you will typically get these feelings into the head (causing headaches) or down into the arms and hands.
However, if the nerve is being compressed in the lower back then your symptoms will travel into your groin, or down the legs into the feet.
A thorough assessment should involve looking at the structural causes (like arthritis causing degeneration of the spine or disc bulges and herniations) and functional causes (like poor movement patterns in muscles).
Although your history and presentation give us a really good idea of what is going on, there may be a need to do further testing like nerve tests and imaging to determine the best course of treatment.
